Staying relaxed under pressure

Dear reader,

Last friday we did a lot of nice excersises. We started with relaxing breathing exercise but also the challenging breath holds. I think these are always challenging. But that state of relaxed mind was the purpose to maintain this state as long as possible. Al the other excersises where actually to get you out of this state. The other things inside the excersis where mostly external. Movement and pressure and working with this was interesting. Do you still breath when you start the movement or are you holding you breath. Everything you do or don’t do effect the state that you are in mentally and physically. It was a evening well spent. Great to be on this journey.

Standing work dealing with grabs

Last Saturday we worked from standing with grabs. It’s amazing to feel where the tension is in the persons body. First we did wresting on the ground, but the interesting this is that you can also feel it when you do standing work. The only thing that you have to do is relax and feel where the tension from the other person is going and lead the person in the same direction. To relax is by concept real easy, but to do it for real is quit a challenge. I just call it homework. If you can’t do it directly, but play with it. Be serious on the inside but definitely have fun while moving.

The difference is that you don’t want to do something but feel where the persons wants to go. What you can do is give or take tension so that you takeaway the ability of the opponent to use your center. A lot of homework to do. Keep on developing! 🙂

Groundwork Systema wrestling

Last saturday i was working with two of my students and the first-time for me i felt really comfortable wrestling. I the sense of relaxing and let the breath guide the movement on the ground. The last few months i have been working with a medicine-ball to feel more comfortalble to do the transitions. It really works to have a medicine-ball. It’s great fun to use and to move with it on the ground is as well relaxing yourself and feel where the tension is in the body. After the working and training the medicine-ball it becomes more evident in which direction you have to work.

The click came for me when i felt during the movement i felt in which direction on the ball i had to work. It was like lightning or a thunderstruck on a clear day.

Today we worked on recognizing tension in the body and structure. If you are able to read the body of your opponent than you are more lickely able to predict his movement and redirect his attention and movement. Every time when a opponent moves to different level there is a moment of tension. It’s very interesting to work and predict the movement. Great fun!

Pinkstertraining 2015 Systema Alkmaar

Systema Alkmaar heeft weer een fantastische pinkstertraining achter de rug.

Patrick van het Nederend van Systema Amsterdam, Wouter Duba en Ik (Gertjan Jongh) Systema Alkmaar hebben weer onze kennis mogen delen. De kern van onze training was Freedom in Movement. We hebben onze interpretatie van dit mooie thema mogen overbrengen. Mijn idee hiervan was om vanuit de beperking zittend te mogen werken met een didactisch middel het mes. Het mes geeft mooi richting aan waar heen je kan bewegen. Eerst zittend en zorgen dat je zacht blijft en vervolgens dit staand toepassen.

Patrick werkte vanuit duwen naar stoten en mijn leerpunt is dat de golf die ontstaat vanuit de duw alleen gaat als je alles ontspant. Je kan mooi teruggegeven als je hiermee in je lichaam werkt.

Wouter hebben we gewerkt op drukpunten en nog belangrijker hoe je deze aangeslagen drukpunten weer moet of kan herstellen. Drukpunten geef mooi richting aan waar je je stoten kan plaatsen. Het was ontspannen maar wel intens wat betreft verwerken, denken en uitvoeren. Wouter eindigde zijn training met re-balancing massage.

Een zeer geslaagde dag. Volgend jaar weer! Zorg dat je erbij bent.

Wouter Duba komt om de week lesgeven. De lessen zullen in het teken staan van balansverstoring, bewegen, conditioneren en combat. Het conditioneren, meebewegen en het overnemen is een belangrijk onderdeel van Systema. Het meebewegen met een richting is vaak nog te doen. Het overnemen en daarbij je balans behouden, is toch wel weer een stuk ingewikkelder. Het blijft een uitdaging, maar dat is een mooi gegeven om mee te werken.

Ik heb er zin in! Tot snel
